- The Landing at the Cape (1652) -The Dutch merchant van Riebeeck founded the first European settlement at the foot of Table Mountain.
- Expansion of the Settlers (1720-1776) - Looking for more fertile land, the Trek Boers moved inland toward the east and the north.
- The Great Trek (1835-1842) - The Voortrekkers left in their thousands the Cape and settled in the Orange Free State, in Natal and Transvaal.
- The Xhosa people - The Xhosa people retreated further eastwards, as the white settlers occupied their land.
- The Kingdom of the Zulus In the beginning of the 19th century - Zulu King Shaka established the most impressive kingdom in Southern Africa.
- The Battle of Blood River (December 16, 1838) - The Voortrekkers, under Andries Pretorius, defeated the Zulus in this historical battle.
- The Colony of Natal - The British occupy Natal and, after the Anglo-Zulu War, annexed the whole of Zululand.
- The Anglo Boer War (1899-1902) - Following a three-year long war, the Boer Republics became British Crown Colonies.
- The Era of Apartheid (1910-1994) - The rightwing Nationalists won the elections and transformed South Africa into a white supremacy dictatorship.
- South Africa’s Democracy (1994-current) - Mandela and de Klerk eradicated Apartheid. South Africa’s first democratic elections opened the way for a better future. The old regime of politics and racial separation were wiped out.
